Join us! \nThis year\, we’re expanding with even more performances\, activities\, and creative ways to celebrate UCSC’s vibrant\, diverse\, and excellent STEM culture!  \nWhat to expect: \n\nCuban Dance Master Susana Arenas and her troupe of Orisha dancers led by Cuban Drum Master Toribio Garcia return for a rousing\, communal dance\n\nStudent performers: Los Mejicas and their traditional baile folklórico followed by an open dance lesson/performance by Slug N’ Boots\n\nSTEM-themed drag performances and spoken word poetry by student creatives \n\nAssociate Vice Chancellor for Student Success and Equity Dr. Ebonee Williams (Chemical Engineering\, University of Washington ‘04) will share an inspirational talk on “Bringing our whole selves to STEM!”\n\nEl Buen Taco and Falafel Santa Cruz will be serving delicious food\, completely FREE for all attendees who engage with the student orgs and their activities\n\nMore than just your standard student organization tabling: Games\, interactive demos\, culturally themed activities\, and opportunities to learn more about clubs from all over campus \n\nRaffle for gift cards to be awarded every hour from 1-4pm – must be present to win! \n\nThis event will take place in the Baskin Engineering Courtyard and will be open to all UCSC students\, staff\, and faculty. \nThe STEM Culture Festival celebrates and elevates the many backgrounds\, cultures\, and identities that intersect with our work as scientists\, engineers\, educators\, and members of the UCSC community. DESCRIPTION:Get ready to slay and celebrate nature’s fierce beauty at the Mother Earth Drag Extravaganza! \n\n\n\n\nA student drag show and queer prom! You won’t want to miss the 4th Annual Mother Earth Drag Extravaganza. \nABOUT\nMother Earth is inherently queer. Come celebrate nature with performances from student drag artists\, tabling from queer groups as well as scientific groups\, food\, and dance! Doors open at 6:00 PM\, show starts at 7:00 PM. \nThis year’s theme is Take it to Heart! We encourage you to come dressed for date night\, but this is not required for attendance. Wear what makes you comfortable! \nACCESIBILITY\nThe Seymour Marine Discovery Center\, Cantu Queer Center\, C9/JRL CoCo\, and our volunteers care about accesibility for all at this event. As such\, equitable access and seating will be provided to those that request it. \nFurthermore\, if anything should arise on the day of the event\, staff members and volunteers will be available to assist with any and all accesibility-related needs. \nSAFETY GUIDELINES\nWe understand that due to the recent political actions taken against LGBTQ and BIPOC communities\, there is an increasing concern about safety for events like this. \nTo address this\, we have partnered with the Rainbow Defense Coalition whose volunteers will provide community safety during the event. DESCRIPTION:Need a break from studying for finals? Want some free pizza? Interested in learning about the history of HIV/AIDS here in the USA? Look no further! UCSC’s Global and Community Health Program\, Student Health Outreach & Promotion (SHOP) and the Cantu Queer Center are partnering to screen\, “And The Band Played On” by Roger Spottiswoode at the Cantu Queer Center on December 4th from 7pm-10pm.\n\nCome relax and enjoy a brief presentation on the history of HIV/AIDS in the United States as well as some local resources that you can use if you or somebody you know is HIV positive. We will also be talking about HIV/AIDS prevention strategies. Then\, we will screen “And The Band Played On” by Roger Spottiswoode to give a better look at what the public health sphere looked like during the 1980’s AIDS epidemic in America. Afterwards\, we will leave some room for comments\, questions\, or any feelings towards the film or about the topic in general.  We hope to see you there!

DESCRIPTION:When: Sunday\, November 2\, 2025\nWhere: Quarry Amphitheater\, UC Santa Cruz\, 1156 High Street\, CA 95064\nTime: 5:30-7:30pm\, doors open at 4:00pm \nEl Centro and the Quarry Amphitheater present Día de los Muertos Ceremonia. A space to collectively honor and celebrate the lives of our loved ones. Join us for a night of danza\, prayer\, food\, music\, and community. This cultural and family event is FREE! Please email elcentro@ucsc.edu for questions or concerns.  \nAs we prepare for this year’s ceremony\, we recognize the pain\, loss\, and grief caused by violence around the world. The community altar\, or ofrenda\, is a sacred space that represents a remembrance of the departed\, a reminder that life is eternal and that the presence of our loved ones is everlasting. The ofrenda speaks of affection and praise toward the deceased and are an expression of love towards life. We preserve this ceremony as a space to reflect and heal. We ask that everyone respect the honoring of individuals lost and come together as we welcome back their spirits through ceremony\, dance\, song\, and offerings. We also recognize that through all cultures and traditions we express ourselves differently\, yet at this time we gather as members of humanity to support one another\, to share our emotions of joy and sadness\, and to embrace our humility as a community of this campus. \nParking and Check-in: Please allow sufficient time to arrive at the Quarry Amphitheater. You can follow the directional signs from the base of the campus to the parking lots. Parking will be free at the Hahn Parking Lot 101. Overflow parking will be free at the East Remote Lot after Lot 101 has been filled. \nShuttles will be available from the East Remote Lot to the Quarry Plaza. ADA parking is available at Parking Lot 102 near the Quarry with an ADA placard. Please let us know if you need any accommodations and/or ADA parking in the form below. \nCovid-19 Guidelines: For the safety of our community\, we recommend our guests and volunteers wear masks when they are not eating. We will have masks available at the registration table. \nWeather: We encourage you to dress for cold weather (hats\, layers\, and blankets). Our event is outdoors and although rain is not in the forecast\, the temperature is expected to drop to the low 50’s\, please wear comfortable shoes and a jacket. \nFood: We will be serving food for our guests starting at 4:00pm until 5:30pm when the Ceremonia begins.
