SUMMARY:Graduate Preparation Program
DESCRIPTION:The Graduate Preparation Program (GPP) is a four-week intensive non-credit course offered in person on the main campus prior to the fall quarter\, which is open to all current and newly admitted international graduate students. It focuses on English for Academic Purposes (EAP)\, academic skills\, and cultural orientation. The program also provides a foundation for transitioning into the Teaching Assistant role. \nThe course offers guided support with: \n\nSeminar-style classroom discussion\nPresentation and oral communication skills\nInformation on U.S. classroom culture; roles and responsibilities of faculty\, Teaching Assistants\, and students\nCritical thinking: using evidence to support ideas\nResearch writing\, citation\, and avoiding plagiarism\nCollaborative and project-based learning\n\nA collaboration between the Graduate Division and Global Engagement\, the Graduate Preparation Program provides a strong foundation for the U.S. classroom environment and university system\, in addition to the opportunity to practice and master the language and academic skills needed for success. \nFor more information and to register\, please visit our webpage.

Her research has been published and presented at ACM UIST\, CHI\, and CHI PLAY. \nLeyu Li is a London-based interdisciplinary artist and food designer whose practice spans installation\, narrative props\, and criteunical writing. Working across conceptual and speculative design\, she explores hybrid food systems and cross-cultural narratives through a research-driven lens. Her work has been exhibited at the London Design Festival\, Milan Design Week\, and Dutch Design Week\, and featured in ARTNews\, Dezeen\, and Mold Magazine. \nJiangyue Leah Wu is an artist and researcher at UC Santa Cruz working at the intersection of computational media and food design. She explores how multisensory intervention can create new modes of sociality and collaboration\, drawing on experience at Disney\, ByteDance\, and Central Saint Martins. DESCRIPTION:Join International Student Services and Programming (ISSP) for our annual trip to the Monterey Bay Aquarium. This will be a great time to get to know each other more while exploring an exciting and beautiful location.\n\nThe trip will be limited to 30 participants. Non-international students can also sign up\, but priority will be given to those who are a part of the Global Mentorship Program and/or are international students. The cost of participation is $25 and includes a round-trip shuttle service and entry to the aquarium. Study how traditional relief printmaking techniques fuse with emerging technologies\, book arts\, and animation\, while engaging with Japan’s vibrant cultural landscape through hands-on washi papermaking\, museum and gallery visits\, and exchanges with master printmakers and Tokyo Zokei University students. Through studio practice\, cultural exploration\, and creative collaboration\, you’ll gain advanced artistic skill\, deep cultural insight\, and a fresh perspective on the possibilities of print media in today’s visual culture.
