SUMMARY:Kraw Lecture: Could a “Super El Niño” be coming?
DESCRIPTION:UC Santa Cruz researchers are closely tracking the development of a potential “super El Niño” this year. In this Kraw Lecture\, two UC Santa Cruz experts will explore the natural forces that drive El Niño events\, how scientists forecast major climate shifts\, and what current research can tell us about the months ahead. While every El Niño is unique\, decades of research at UC Santa Cruz provide valuable insights into potential impacts and how communities can prepare. \nAttendees will also get an early look at findings from California’s Fifth Climate Change Assessment and explore CoSMoS Adapts\, an innovative project examining future coastal flood risks and the effectiveness and cost of different adaptation strategies. Join us for a timely conversation about what a changing climate and a potential major El Niño could mean for California’s coast and communities. \nSpeakers:\nGary Griggs\nDistinguished Professor\, Earth & Planetary Sciences\, UC Santa Cruz \nMike Beck\nDirector\, Center for Coastal Climate Resilience\, UC Santa Cruz \n  \nRegister Now
